Overview

A compact Matsuyama golf trip that splits its four nights between the countryside and the city. The first two nights are at Juraku Spa & Resort in Toon, a hot-spring resort with two separate spring sources and one of western Japan's largest open-air baths, eight pools in all. From there you play two rounds, 36 holes in two colors: a forest-view course set among some 120,000 pines, and a course looking out over the Seto Inland Sea, chosen from Matsuyama Golf Club's Kokusai and Royal courses, Seaside Country Club and Chisan Hojo. Green fees, cart fees and every transfer are included, and you play self-round. After golf there is time for the baths and a walk through the Tobe-yaki pottery village. The last two nights move to the Hiyori Hotel in central Okaido, opposite Mitsukoshi, in a small city often called Japan's best for exploring on foot and by tram: Matsuyama Castle, Dogo Onsen, Ishiteji Temple and the covered arcades are all close.   1. Day 01

    Arrival in Matsuyama

    Arrive at Matsuyama Airport and transfer to Juraku Spa & Resort in Toon. Check in to your New Wing twin and ease into the open-air baths.

  2. Day 02

    Golf: forest-view round

    Round-trip transfer to an 18-hole forest-view round among some 120,000 pines, green and cart fees included. Back at Juraku, soak in the eight-pool open-air bath or walk the Tobe-yaki pottery village.

  3. Day 03

    Golf: Seto Inland Sea-view round, then the city

    Play 18 holes overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, then transfer to the Hiyori Hotel in central Okaido, steps from Mitsukoshi and the tram.

  4. Day 04

    Free day by tram

    A free day on foot and by tram: Matsuyama Castle, Dogo Onsen, Ishiteji Temple and the covered arcades. Dokumo suggests a route and restaurants.

Passport & Entry

Getting Around

Tipping Etiquette

Don't tip — anywhere, ever. It's not rude to skip it; it's rude to insist. Great service is the default and it's already in the price.

Restaurant Etiquette

Wait to be seated, say 'sumimasen' to call staff, and slurping noodles is fine. Many small places seat 8–10 people — that's the charm, not a downgrade.

Luggage Forwarding

Japan's takkyubin service ships your suitcase hotel-to-hotel (or to the airport) overnight for about $15. Travel with a day bag and let your luggage meet you there.
